Make UK is the leading voice of British manufacturing, supporting thousands of businesses with expert advice, consultancy and training. Our Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) division has built an outstanding reputation for delivering trusted, practical solutions that help organisations improve compliance, reduce risk and create safer, healthier workplaces.

We’re now looking for an ambitious, commercially-minded Director to take the business into its next phase of growth.

This isn’t a traditional technical EHS leadership role. We’re looking for someone who can spot market opportunities, develop commercially successful services, build strategic client relationships and lead a high-performing consultancy business. Whilst experience within health, safety, environmental or technical services would be advantageous, your ability to grow a business, build a compelling proposition and deliver commercial success is what will set you apart.

As Director, you’ll have the autonomy to shape the future direction of the division. You’ll lead the commercial strategy, develop new service offerings, strengthen existing client relationships and identify new revenue opportunities, whilst leading an experienced team of consultants and specialists.

Working closely with senior leaders across Commercial, Marketing, Membership and Policy, you’ll ensure our EHS business continues to evolve and remains the first choice for organisations seeking trusted consultancy, advice and training

Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver a long-term commercial growth strategy for the division.
  • Drive revenue, profitability and sustainable business growth.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with strategic clients and key accounts.
  • Identify new market opportunities and develop innovative consultancy, advisory and training services.
  • Lead the evolution of our EHS proposition, ensuring it reflects changing client needs and future market trends.
  • Champion a customer-first culture that balances technical excellence with commercial success.
  • Lead, inspire and develop a high-performing team of consultants and specialist associates.
  • Represent Make UK externally, building our profile through industry engagement, partnerships and thought leadership.
  • Work collaboratively across the wider organisation to maximise commercial opportunities.
Requirements

You’ll be able to demonstrate:

  • A proven track record of growing a consultancy, professional services or technical services business.
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience delivering revenue growth and improving profitability.
  • Experience owning a P&L and making strategic commercial decisions.
  • Success developing new products, services or market propositions.
  • Experience winning, developing and retaining major client accounts.
  • The ability to build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders and customers.
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams, including employed consultants and associate networks.
  • A strategic mindset, with the ability to identify emerging trends and turn them into commercial opportunities.
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to inspire teams through change and growth.

This is a great opportunity to take on a well-established business with a strong reputation and plenty of scope to shape where it goes next.

You’ll have the backing to introduce new ideas, develop services, build on what’s already working and play a key role in growing the commercial success of the division.

If you enjoy spotting opportunities, building strong client relationships and leading teams to deliver results, you’ll have the freedom to make a real impact here.

Make UK staff enjoy a good benefits package and values a diverse workforce and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.

  • Free parking
  • meal service on site
  • no bank holiday/weekend work
  • flexible hours

  • matched pension contributions up to 8%
