Job Description & How to Apply Below

Can you turn complex project data into meaningful insight that drives better decision-making? Want to help shape a newly established PMO at the heart of one of the UK's most significant infrastructure programmes?

If you're passionate about project controls, performance reporting and transforming data into actionable insight, this is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in a major national infrastructure programme while helping build a Project Management Office from the ground up.

When you join Laing O'Rourke, you'll become part of an industry-leading engineering and construction team delivering some of the UK's most complex and rewarding infrastructure projects. We are committed to investing in our people through structured development, continuous learning and long-term career opportunities, supporting you to build a rewarding career with us.

What is the Great Grid Partnership?

The Great Grid Partnership (GGP) is helping to deliver one of the UK's most significant infrastructure programmes, supporting National Grid's investment in the largest upgrade to the electricity transmission network since the 1960s.

With billions of pounds being invested in critical energy infrastructure, the programme will increase network capacity, improve energy security and help connect new sources of low-carbon and renewable energy. Through collaboration, innovation and modern methods of delivery, GGP is playing a vital role in shaping the future of the UK's energy network.

What is the role?

We're looking for a Project Controls Manager to join a newly developing Portfolio Management Office (PMO) within the Great Grid Partnership (GGP).

Reporting to the GGP PMO Lead, you'll play a key role in supporting the development and maturity of the PMO, helping to establish robust reporting, performance measurement and governance processes across a complex portfolio of projects.

Initially, the role will focus on the development and enhancement of the current reporting suite, creating high-quality portfolio-level dashboards and delivering meaningful insights that support executive decision-making. Over time, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to the wider development of the PMO across planning, change control, cost management, risk management and portfolio governance.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in project controls, PMO, reporting or portfolio management within an engineering, construction, infrastructure, manufacturing, automotive or aerospace environment.

What you'll be doing
  • Leading the monthly performance measurement and reporting cycle across multiple projects and functions.
  • Collecting, analysing and coordinating project controls data to provide meaningful performance insights.
  • Developing and improving management dashboards, reporting tools and data sources.
  • Maintaining Power BI dashboards and reports, ensuring high levels of data accuracy and consistency.
  • Supporting structured project controls reviews and cross-functional performance workshops.
  • Identifying opportunities for digitisation, automation and continuous improvement within project controls and reporting processes.
  • Providing proactive feedback on data quality, completeness and reliability, including identifying root causes of recurring issues.
  • Working collaboratively with engineering, commercial, planning, quality and delivery teams to ensure alignment of reporting standards and data structures.
  • Supporting senior leadership through insightful reporting, commentary and recommendations that enable informed decision-making.
  • Contributing to the continued development and growth of the PMO function and its capabilities.
Location

Based in Birmingham, with occasional travel to project and stakeholder locations as required.
