We’re looking for a skilled Slitter/Setter Operator to become part of our growing team. If you take pride in precision, enjoy hands-on machine work, and value quality and safety, this could be a great opportunity for you.
While working from a production order you will be required to set the machine using shim or shim less tooling for setting the slitting head and separators, load and unload coils for production and record quality data using measuring equipment provided.
Our site in Witton, also known as ‘Vetch berry Steels’, is home to all our coil products and the slitting line is a state of the art machine. Using the crane and fork lift trucks to move the coils, you will always be putting Health and Safety first, beyond anything else, keeping to a 6S approach.
Shift pattern
Monday-Thursday 7:30am-4:15pm
Fridays 7:30am-1:00pm
- Set up and operate large coil slitting lines for aluminium and steel in line with job specifications
- Select, assemble, and set slitting tooling (knives, spacers, arbors) to required tolerances
- Load, thread, and unload coils safely using overhead cranes or lifting equipment
- Adjust machine settings to achieve correct strip width, edge quality, and surface finish
- Monitor slitting operations to ensure consistent quality and productivity
- Carry out first-off and in-process inspections, measuring slit widths and checking for defects
- Identify and rectify process issues
- Complete job changeovers efficiently to minimise downtime
- Report equipment faults or tooling issues to maintenance or supervision
- Maintain accurate production and quality records
- Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental procedures at all times
- Keep work areas clean, organised, and compliant with 6S standards
- Work closely with team members, supervisors, and quality staff to meet production targets

Essential experience, skills and knowledge:
- Experience working with machinery in a Production Environment
- Excellent attention to detail
- Good team player
- Able to use measuring tools
Desirable experience, skills and knowledge:
- Fork Lift Truck licence (B1 or above)
- Over Head Crane Licence
- Experience with imperial slitting lines
