Laboratory Shift Technician – Metals Manufacturing

Aston, Birmingham

£34,500 + Shift Allowance

Rotating Shifts (6am-2pm / 2pm-10pm / 10pm-6am)

Are you an experienced Laboratory Technician with a background in metals, foundry, steel, aluminium, copper, brass, or industrial manufacturing?

We are seeking a Laboratory Shift Technician to join a well-established manufacturing operation, supporting quality assurance, materials testing, and process control within a fast‑paced production environment.

• Mechanical and metallurgical testing including hardness, tensile, bend and grain size analysis
• Spectrographic chemical analysis and verification of material composition
• Inspection and testing of incoming raw materials and scrap
• Calibration and verification of laboratory equipment
• Monitoring and analysis of process solutions, acids and treatment tanks
• Preparation of Certificates of Conformity and quality documentation
• Macro and microstructural examination of metal products

• Laboratory, quality control, or metallurgical testing experience within a manufacturing environment
• Knowledge of mechanical and chemical testing methods
• Experience working with metal products, alloys, castings, extrusions or engineered materials
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards
• Ability to work independently and make sound decisions

Additional Responsibility:
The successful candidate will occasionally provide operational cover during nights and weekends, ensuring production, quality, safety and staffing requirements are maintained.
