Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist - Sacral Nerve Stimulation

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Clinical Nurse Specialist to lead on sacral nerve stimulation of the bladder (SNS), in the urology department at University Hospitals Birmingham, Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The post is for 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, working closely with a team of Clinical Nurse Specialists, Urological Consultants, Outpatient, theatre and Ward Staff.
Applications are invited from nurses who are dynamic and forward thinking, with an interest in developing new skills and can deliver high quality patient centred care in an inpatient and outpatient setting. The successful candidate will require urology experience. Practice is protocol driven and the successful applicant will be given full training to deliver the care and investigations required, allowing development of new skills, which are transferable to many different areas of nursing, and so would be an asset to any nursing career, being familiar with sacral nerve stimulation would be an advantage.
The successful nurse will be able to demonstrate the ability to drive forward and deliver services using change management and have the skills to measure any changes made using clinical audit.
A large part of the role is patient support, so the nurse will produce patient information, update the information already available and develop and write the protocols to ensure safe, effective practice.
Main duties of the jobThe main duties of this job will involve delivering care to patients undergoing sacral nerve stimulation.
The successful candidate will be responsible for taking on managerial responsibilities that are shared among the senior management Clinical Nurse Specialist team such as appraisal, managing HR issues, managing leave and sickness.
Core duties will include:
- flow rate/bladder scan
- change of urethral and supra pubic catheters
- teaching clean intermittent self-catheterisation and dilatation
- Providing advice via the telephone to support care and triage
More specifically the duties that the SNS nurse is responsible for are, managing patients who are having PNE tined lead test and sacral nerve stimulation, these include counselling the patient pre-treatment, decision making about suitability and contributing a nursing perspective to the medical decision-making process, programming the device and teaching the patient how to manage the device, post-operative care, removal of temporary leads, managing dressings and addressing patient queries

- Registered Adult / Child Nurse on the NMC Register (Field dependent upon role)
- Evidence of post registration CPD / Post registration qualification in (appropriate area of speciality or professional knowledge supplemented by specialist experience and short courses to degree / masters level equivalent FHEQ Level 6 /7)
- Recognised mentorship course
- To have or working towards a MSc/ Masters qualification
- To have or working towards advanced health assessment module -- where applicable to the role
- Non -- Medical Prescriber/ willingness to undertake - where applicable to the role
- Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC
- Significant years post registration experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist at B6 or above in defined or associated speciality Extensive experience of working autonomously at a specialist level
- Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of on-going professional development/ competence.
- Demonstrate expert knowledge underpinned by theory and CPD relevant to speciality.
- Experience and enthusiasm for developing educational programmes and teaching / assessing and supervising others in a clinical setting.
