An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 5 staff nurse to join our dynamic Coronary Care unit and Cardiac Cath Lab Team at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your nursing career within a specialist area. Working alongside a skilled and supportive multidisciplinary team.
The post holder will provide high-quality evidence-based care for patients with both acute and complex cardiac conditions. This includes working as part of a 24/7 service, covering day and nights, weekends, bank holidays and emergency on call cover for our 24/7 Primary PCI cover.
The post holder will be expected to partake in on‑calls – once a month or twice every three months. This is in addition to full‑time hours.
The post holder will practise autonomously and be responsible and accountable for safe, compassionate person‑centred evidence‑based nursing that respects and maintains dignity and human rights. They will be responsible for assessment of care needs of patients and planning programmes of care, implementation and the evaluation of these programmes without direct supervision. At times they will have management responsibility for being in charge of the ward/department and supervising junior members of staff.
Mainduties of the job
- Work according to the NMC Code of Professional Standards of Practice and Behaviour and relevant professional guidelines and be accountable for own professional actions.
- Use up‑to‑date knowledge and evidence to assess, plan, deliver and evaluate care, communicate findings, influence changes and promote health and best practice.
- Achieve and maintain competence in identified mandatory and statutory training, develop and maintain clinical competencies, skills and knowledge which relate to the area of clinical practice.
- Respond to patients, relatives and carers concerns as they arise and take remedial action as required.
- Take charge of the practice setting as required or a defined area of the practice setting.
- Assume responsibility for undertaking tasks delegated by the nominated line/shift manager, which may include representing the practice setting at meetings, link nurse responsibilities, audit, governance initiatives and supervision and role competence assessments for unregistered nurses and students/trainees.
- Contribute to the development of service and quality improvement initiatives within a collaborative framework to enhance patient experience and outcome and ensure standards of care are monitored and maintained at the highest level.

Qualifications
- Evidence of professional and clinical knowledge acquired through training to degree or diploma level leading to professional registration on the appropriate part of the NMC register (Adult, Child, Learning Disability or Mental Health).
- Evidence of undergraduate education for newly qualified nurses or postgraduate continuing professional development for registered nurses who have post‑registration experience.
- Previous or recent experience or working in an acute secondary health and care setting (can include undergraduate student placements within the last 12 months).
