UHB are seeking a Band 7, Neonatal Risk Governance Nurse to support the neonatal service. This is a part time post, 18.75 hours per week on a permanent basis. We are looking for an experienced neonatal nurse to work collaboratively with the MDT. The role will enable you to lead on all governance issues by following a robust process to improve quality and safety within the service.

The role of an experienced risk governance nurse in this specialised service is integral to ensuring staff have the appropriate level of knowledge, skill and ability to deliver a high standard of safe effective care to our babies and families. The individual must be confidential and competent to investigate and assess all incidents in a non-judgemental way.

Main duties of the job

Within this role you will lead on all governance issues, working collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will lead on any issues that arise within the department including Serious Incident Reviews and Root Cause Analysis.

They will promote a non‑blame environment where clinical governance and patient safety are paramount to the service.

The role includes risk management and the investigation of all incidents and complaints, which will be fed back in weekly and monthly meetings.

This will be done in a non-judgemental learning environment always allowing staff to reflect on their practice.

Essential skills include being a visible accessible leader, excellent communication skills always remaining confidential and empathetic at all times.

This role includes the development and implementation of policies and procedures in collaboration with the team.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse, Registered Children's Nurse or Registered Midwife
  • Completion of a post registration Diploma/ Degree or equivalent experience in Neonatal Care to Masters level pertaining to clinical area/ role
  • Qualified in Speciality (QIS)
  • Leadership course/qualifications or experience
Experience
  • Band 6 clinical experience in speciality
  • Evidence of continuous professional development (CPD)
  • Experienced with investigating Incidents reporting process
  • Knowledge of Information Governance policy
  • Familiar with PSIRF process
  • Awareness of Duty of Candor requirements
  • Awareness of risk assessment process
  • Experience with sharing information in various formats
  • Experience of Change Management
  • Experienced with Safeguarding Children
  • Knowledge and experience of audit
  • Formulating action plans
