An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated registered nurse to join the Dermatology Service as a Band 6 Skin Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) based at Solihull and Good Hope Hospital part of UHB.
This is a key role within the skin cancer service, providing expert clinical care and acting as a Key Worker for patients across the cancer pathway. The post holder will manage a specialist caseload, delivering advanced clinical assessment, coordinating care, and supporting patients from diagnosis through treatment and follow‑up.
The post holder will liaise with other Health Care Professionals, including the Primary Health Care Team and Tertiary Centres, to provide the best possible care for patients, ensuring co‑ordination and continuity of care from initial diagnosis to discharge into the community and throughout the whole patient journey.
The role also contributes to service development, education and quality improvement, ensuring care is delivered in line with national cancer standards and best practice.
The post holder will act as an expert specialist resource for Skin cancer and benign disease, collaborating with all members of the multi‑professional team, to facilitate a collaborative approach to patient care. The role involves attending weekly multidisciplinary team meetings and representing MDT as required at local/regional business/expert advisory group meetings.
Main duties of the jobProvide treatment/advice as per speciality and scope of practice, this may be face to face, virtual or telephone and incorporate the use of agreed protocols, clinical and professional guidelines, within an acute secondary healthcare facility.
To operate the Skin cancer nurse‑led telephone / email information and support service to provide specialist advice and support for patients with concerns about signs, symptoms, disease management or pathway related issues.
Carry out specialist clinical practice within a designated group of patients as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Ensure that high quality, current evidence‑based nursing care underpins all actions with patients and is aligned to professional values of care, compassion and respect.
Provide a seamless, high‑quality service from referral through to assessment, diagnosis, treatment and review, referring to other specialists as required.
Demonstrate safe, appropriate practice and specialist nursing advice using up to date knowledge and evidence.
Use professional judgment to act as advocate for patients, support and enable patients and carers to make informed decisions.
Supervise, carry out and assist with clinical procedures/practice as required, ensuring optimal recovery to health of the patient.
Ensure effective handover of patients between health care professionals using a range of communication aids.
Undertaking nurse‑led clinics working in parallel with multidisciplinary team members.
