Registered Veterinary Nurse, Maternity Cover (12‑month Fixed‑Term Contract)

Fivelands Veterinary Centre, Moseley

Salary up to £32,000 DOE

Full‑time, 40 hours per week, part‑time/job share considered

Join a Friendly, Supportive Nursing Team in a Busy Small Animal Practice

We are looking for a Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our fantastic nursing team at Fivelands Veterinary Centre on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract to cover maternity leave. This is a great opportunity to join a well‑established, supportive practice with a varied caseload and a strong team culture.

Ideally, we are looking for someone to work full time, 40 hours per week; however part‑time or job share arrangements will be happily considered.

The role

This is a hands‑on and varied nursing role, covering all aspects of small animal practice. Your duties will include theatre work, nurse consultations, inpatient care, dental procedures and reception duties. Our nurses are actively encouraged to use their skills fully, including carrying out Stage 1 dentals and dental radiography.

No two days are the same, and you will be supported to get involved across a wide range of procedures and cases, making this a rewarding and engaging role for an RVN who enjoys variety.

Hours and rota

The full‑time role is 40 hours per week, with a mix of shift patterns including approximately 8:00am to 7:30pm, 8:00am to 2:00pm and 8:00am to 4:30pm. There is a 1 in 4 Saturday rota, working 8:30am to 5:30pm.

There is no out‑of‑hours work, and we are a 100 percent small animal practice.

About us

You will be joining a friendly and supportive nursing team made up of 10 RVNs, 1 student veterinary nurse and 2 VCAs, working across three sites within our nine‑vet practice. You will be primarily based at our main branch in Moseley, just outside Birmingham city centre, which is our busiest and most vibrant site.

We are well equipped with dental X‑ray, ultrasound, endoscopy and laparoscopic equipment, allowing us to perform a wide range of procedures in‑house. We are proud to be an ISFM Silver Status practice and have certificate holders in Feline Medicine and Dentistry, alongside vets currently studying for certificates in Internal Medicine and Surgery. We also provide referral‑level abdominal and cardiac ultrasound, offering excellent learning opportunities.

Alongside a strong clinical focus, we have a genuinely lovely team culture, with regular nurse, clinical and practice meetings, often accompanied by pizza, fruit and cakes, and a real emphasis on everyone having their voice heard.

What we’re looking for

We are looking for a qualified RVN who is enthusiastic, team‑oriented and keen to deliver high standards of patient care. Whether you are looking to broaden your experience or simply enjoy working within a supportive, well‑equipped practice, we would love to hear from you.

Because our people matter
