We are looking for an experienced Gardener to join our Estates and Facilities Team. In this hands‑on role, you will be responsible for the maintenance and landscaping of all university grounds, ensuring that our outdoor spaces are safe, attractive, and welcoming.
This varied role involves a wide range of gardening and grounds tasks, including manual handling, use of horticultural tools and equipment, and driving university vehicles. Flexibility is essential, as duties may vary across sites and working hours, and teamwork is key.

Key Responsibilities:- Maintain gardens, borders, terraces, and other outside spaces across university sites
- Carry out planting, pruning, and general horticultural maintenance
- Sweep, litter‑pick, and ensure external areas remain clean and presentable
- Remove moss and treat areas using herbicides and fungicides
- Operate machinery including mowers, strimmers, hedge cutters, leaf blowers, and ride‑on equipment
- Use university vehicles, including trailers, for tasks such as weed, moss, and algae treatment
- Respond to adverse weather conditions, ensuring safe access to buildings and evacuation routes
- Store and maintain grounds equipment safely and carry out daily checks
- Support biodiversity initiatives and the opening of new buildings
- Experience in grounds maintenance or a similar gardening role
- Vocational qualification such as NVQ Level 2 in Amenity Horticulture (or equivalent)
- Clean, current driving licence; experience driving larger vehicles or towing trailers is desirable (training provided)
- Good literacy and numeracy skills
- Basic IT skills for emails and university systems
- Willingness to undertake health surveillance checks
- Strong teamwork and flexibility across multiple sites and varied tasks
