Overview
Quality Inspector AS9100 – Birmingham. Our client is a market leader in the manufacture of low volume, high precision complex machined parts for aerospace and automotive applications. The successful candidate will ensure manufactured products, materials, and processes comply with AS9100 aerospace quality management standards, customer specifications, engineering drawings, and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities- Perform first article inspections (FAI) in accordance with AS9102 requirements.
- Inspect incoming materials, in-process components, and finished products against engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
- Verify compliance with AS9100 quality management system standards.
- Use precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, CMMs, bore gauges, and other inspection tools.
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), specifications, and quality plans.
- Complete inspection reports and maintain accurate quality records.
- Identify, document, and report non-conforming products and materials.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective action investigations.
- Participate in internal audits and support external customer and certification audits.
- Monitor manufacturing processes to ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Verify certifications, traceability records, and material documentation.
- Collaborate with production, engineering, and supply chain teams to resolve issues.
- Assist in continuous improvement activities using Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.
- Ensure compliance with aerospace, customer, regulatory, and safety requirements.
- Technical certification or equivalent experience with at least 2 years of quality inspection within an aerospace, aviation, manufacturing, or precision engineering environment.
- Working knowledge of AS9100 Quality Management Systems and of conducting First Article Inspections (AS9102).
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications with a strong understanding of GD&T.
- Proficiency in using precision measuring equipment and experience with non-conformance reporting and corrective action processes.
- Competent user of MS Office and QMS systems; AS9100 internal auditor certification is advantageous.
- experience with CMM operation and programming is beneficial; knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma manufacturing methodologies is desirable.
