Position: Research Fellow - Department of Applied Health Sciences - 106738- Grade 7

Research Fellow – Department of Applied Health Sciences

University of Birmingham, Edgbaston, Birmingham, United Kingdom
Full‑time, Fixed‑term contract (up to February 2030)
Grade 7 – Salary range £36,636 – £46,049 (potential progression to £48,822)

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and apply spatial and spatio‑temporal statistical methods for disease mapping within the GGH Initiative.
  • Implement R‑based analytical pipelines for model fitting, simulation, prediction and visualisation.
  • Analyse multi‑country disease datasets to produce high‑resolution prevalence and uncertainty maps.
  • Support the preparation of academic publications, conference presentations and stakeholder reports.
  • Collaborate proactively with international partners and contribute to training and capacity‑building activities.
Required Qualifications
  • PhD (or near completion) in Statistics, Geostatistics, Data Science or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Strong theoretical understanding and practical experience in spatial or spatio‑temporal statistical modelling.
  • Advanced proficiency in R programming (data processing, simulation, model implementation).
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to reproducibility.
  • Effective scientific writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience in disease mapping and global health applications.
  • Knowledge of open‑source software development and reproducible research workflows.
  • Experience working with international research consortia.
