The College of Medicine and Health (CMH) offers pump-priming postdoctoral fellowship awards. This competitive fellowship scheme supports high-calibre postdoctoral researchers to develop proposals for prestigious fellowships such as NIHR Postdoctoral Awards, ERC Starter Grants, Future Leaders Fellowship, Wellcome/MRC Career Development Awards and others.
The fellowship aims to boost the competitiveness of the post holder for these externally funded, independent fellowship applications by offering the opportunity to complete key research outputs, develop new skills and generate preliminary data.
Applicants must be early‑career researchers, not clinicians. Candidates with a current area of research in Applied Health are encouraged, particularly those identifying as female.
ResponsibilitiesThe post holder will work in a high‑quality research environment and will be sponsored by a senior mentor for development of their independent research within the strategic areas of research in CMHS. They are expected to submit an independent fellowship application within the first 12 months of appointment. If successful, they will move into the fellowship role on a new contract within the 2-year award period.
QualificationsEarly‑career postdoctoral researchers with a strong research track record and a clear proposal for independent fellowship application. No clinical experience required.
Application ProcessComplete the application form and upload a research proposal and narrative CV. Contact Dr Tim Giles (Researcher Development Manager) at for queries. Interviews expected on 7 July and 9 July.
