NIHR MDC Mixed Methods Research Fellow Grade 7​/8

We are seeking an ambitious and motivated Mixed Methods Research Fellow (0.5 FTE) to join the University of Birmingham as part of the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Maternity Disparities Consortium (MDC). The MDC is a nationally-leading research programme which brings together a diverse range of organisations with expertise in research, capacity building and working with people and communities to deliver a step change in maternity and neonatal outcomes.

The research carried out by the consortium will focus on inequalities before, during and after pregnancy. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to research with real-world impact while developing your academic career within a supportive and multidisciplinary environment. About the Role You will work within the Pregnancy, Birth and Early Postnatal Maternal Health theme (Theme
2), including research programmes in cardiometabolic risk prevention and management, and specifically, remote blood pressure monitoring in pregnancy and the postnatal period. Working closely with academic, clinical and public contributors, you will support the development and delivery of key components of the theme's research programme. You will contribute to high-quality mixed methods research and help ensure that research findings are translated into meaningful improvements in policy and practice.

The role offers excellent opportunities to develop your academic profile through publications, conference presentations, interdisciplinary collaboration and involvement in research funding development activities. This is a 0.5 FTE position available at Grade 7 or 8, depending on the skills and experience of the successful candidate. Only one appointment will be made, initially until 31st May 2028. The University operates a hybrid working model;

• A PhD relevant to the role, or equivalent doctoral-level qualifications.
• Experience, appropriate to Grade 7 or Grade 8, of conducting and delivering high-quality mixed methods research in maternal health, women's health or a related field.
• Experience of working within health research settings, ideally including NHS-based research.
• Good knowledge of research ethics, governance and regulatory requirements within health-related research.
• Experience of participant recruitment and obtaining informed consent.
• Excellent organisational and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.

You will be based within the School of Health Sciences in the College of Medicine and Health at the University of Birmingham. You will join a vibrant and supportive multidisciplinary team of academics, clinicians and researchers with expertise spanning maternity care, public health, epidemiology, implementation science and health services research.
