New Business Development Manager

Location:

Birmingham, West Midlands. Requires regular travel to the Food Alert office in London or Citation Group's Head Office in Wilmslow.

Food Alert is a leading UK food safety and health & safety consultancy. It is part of The Citation Group, a major provider of Health & Safety, HR, Employment Law, and ISO services.

The Role

This is a 100% new business sales role with no inherited client base or account management responsibilities. Success depends on identifying opportunities, opening doors, building relationships and converting prospects into clients. The role focuses on proactive business development; inbound leads or warm contacts are insufficient.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Generate your own pipeline through outbound activity, networking, referrals and prospecting.
  • Identify and engage decision‑makers across leisure, stadiums, travel & transport, and food manufacturing sectors.
  • Create opportunities where no existing relationship exists.
  • Conduct high‑quality discovery conversations.
  • Build commercial urgency and move prospects through the sales cycle.
  • Manage opportunities from first contact through to close.
  • Consistently deliver against pipeline, activity and revenue targets.
  • Develop deep sector knowledge to become a trusted adviser.
What We're Looking For
  • Proven new business B2B sales professional with a strong track record.
  • Demonstrable success in self‑generated business development.
  • Experience building and converting your own pipeline.
  • Consistent over performance against sales targets.
  • Ability to influence senior decision‑makers.
  • High levels of resilience, pace and commercial curiosity.
  • Particular interest for candidates with experience selling into leisure, hospitality, stadiums and large venues, travel & transport, or food manufacturing.
Benefits
  • Tailored on‑the‑job training, mentoring and progression support.
  • 25 days holiday + bank holidays + 3 gift days over the festive period.
  • Additional leave benefits (e.g. marriage week, new grandparent leave).
  • Enhanced sick pay, life insurance and employee assistance programme.
  • Healthcare cash plan including discounted gym membership.
  • Referral bonuses, incentive vouchers and team socials.

For the right person this role offers significant earning potential, genuine autonomy and the opportunity to build a long‑term career with one of the UK’s leading compliance consultancies.
