Business Development, Outside Sales
The Role
You will be the senior commercial resource in the division, responsible for new business development, key account growth and service and maintenance revenue. You will report directly to the Managing Director.
The level is open depending on the candidate. The role can be structured as BDM working within the division, or as BDD with ownership of the department and staff. Salary reflects both options. The longer-term path is Sales Director – the business has not had one in this division, and the expectation is that the right person builds toward that.
Key responsibilities include:
- New business development with end users, consultants and contractors
- Account management and structured growth across existing clients
- Building recurring service and maintenance revenue
- Site surveys and fire alarm system design and specification to BS5839, NSI and BAFE standards
- Managing incoming enquiries and developing pipeline
- Working with internal CAD, design and admin teams
This role suits a commercially experienced BDM or regional sales manager with genuine fire and life safety depth. Technically lightweight candidates will not be the right fit.
You are likely to have:
- A track record in fire alarm, life safety or electronic security sales or business development
- Strong knowledge of BS5839 and the ability to hold a specification or survey conversation without handing off
- Experience selling service and maintenance contracts or growing recurring revenue
- Commercial discipline – comfortable working to margin, conversion and forecast expectations
- A credible background with systems integrators, fire and security contractors or service businesses
Backgrounds in estimating, sales engineering or pre-sales moving into commercial ownership will also be considered where fire knowledge is strong.
Location and Travel- Midlands-based preferred given the core territory

- 24/7 GP helpline and private electronic prescription service
- Savings and discounts portal
