Security Liaison Officer

St Andrew’s is a mental health charity with purpose to inspire hope for people living with complex mental health needs. Our Birmingham site is on an ambitious improvement journey.

Salary: £24,853 per annum, Pro Rata. 12‑month fixed term contract. Full time 37.5 hours per week.

We are looking for a professional, calm, and proactive Security Officer to join our team.

St Andrew’s Birmingham is a 125 bedded adult mental healthcare facility comprising eight units for medium and low security for both men and women. Located in Stirchley, a vibrant area in South Birmingham, easily accessible by road networks and public transport.

• Maintain a visible security presence across the site
• Monitor and respond to incidents, ensuring safety procedures are followed
• Support staff in managing challenging situations, using de-escalation where appropriate
• Communicate clearly with patients, staff and visitors
• Conduct regular patrols and security checks
• Escorting visitors and contractors around the site including wards
• Ensure compliance with health and safety and security policies

• Previous experience in security, healthcare or a related field
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to remain calm under pressure
• Good understanding of safety, confidentiality, and professional boundaries
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Respectful, patient, non-judgemental and empathic approach when working in a mental health environment
• Full UK Manual Driving Licence
