We require several Security Officers (Band
3) to assist in the maintenance of Security to protect people and property, deter and detect crime and provide a reassuring presence to our staff, patients and visitors. (Please note that you can be deployed on any premises of Sandwell & West Birmingham Hospital NHS Trust if you are required to do so).
You must be of smart appearance and be able to work as part of a very active team; you will need to cope calmly and effectively with both routine and emergency situations. We are looking for compassionate, professional and courteous individuals. The shift pattern is 4 x 12-hour shifts, working 4 on then 4 off, covering weekends and Public Holidays as they fall.
Mainduties of the job
This role involves a wide variety of duties, and you will need to deal with difficult situations and be sensitive when dealing with upset and anxious patients and visitors. You will need to use diplomacy skills to diffuse and de-escalate aggressive behaviour and be able to physically assist in restraining violent individuals who may be patients or visitors. Candidates must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
The successful candidate will need to be IT literate
- As a Security Officer for Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust you will be expected to patrol hospital premises, monitor state of the art CCTV systems from a dedicated Control room based at Midland Metropolitan university Hospital, control access to restricted areas, and respond to alarms, emergencies, and security incidents. Work closely with clinical staff, management, and external agencies such as the police to manage risks including violence and aggression, theft, safeguarding concerns, and public safety issues.
- The role requires strong communication skills, both written and spoken, conflict management, and observational skills to effectively de-escalate situations and ensure the wellbeing of patients, staff and visitors. As a Security Officer you must follow NHS policies, health and safety regulations, and national security guidance to support a safe healthcare environment.
Previous security experience in a large and diverse organisation is advantageous, as is possessing an SIA Door Supervisor license and an SIA CCTV license.
A full driving licence is essential, as is the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
You will be required to file reports and undertake a range of tasks using computer software. The successful candidate must complete the required training.
