The Role

As a Helpline Practitioner you will:

  • Engage with a diverse range of service users, recognising individual needs, rights and circumstances.
  • Provide expert safeguarding advice to carers, professionals and members of the public.
  • Assess contacts and work alongside duty managers to determine appropriate action.
  • Ensure referrals are processed and passed to relevant agencies within required time frames.
  • Accurately record detailed case information in line with Helpline procedures and safeguarding standards.
  • Contribute to service evaluation and continuous improvement.
  • Work in partnership with external agencies to support effective child protection.
  • Promote equal opportunities, diversity and children's rights in all aspects of your work.
  • Support colleagues and volunteers in delivering high-quality services.
Salary & Benefits
  • Starting salary: £35,000
About You

We're looking for someone who combines professional expertise with empathy and sound judgement.

You will have:

  • A relevant safeguarding qualification (social care, health, education, law enforcement, youth justice, youth work or counselling).
  • Post-qualification experience with responsibility for safeguarding children or families.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of childcare legislation, research and best practice.
  • Proven ability to provide advice and support via telephone and in writing.
  • Strong analytical skills - able to gather, assess and succinctly record key information.
  • A genuine commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
