Are you passionate about preventing youth homelessness?

We are recruiting an experienced Outreach Navigator to support vulnerable young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness across Birmingham.

The role will involve working within communities across Birmingham, enabling you to carry out proactive outreach, engage with young people in locations accessible to them and provide practical support where it is needed most.

Vacancy Brief

* Full-time position working 37.5 hours per week.

* Monday to Friday 9:00am–5:00pm.

* Temporary-to-permanent opportunity.

 * £13.16 per hour PAYE or £17.00 per hour Umbrella.

* Community-based role covering Birmingham.

* Enhanced DBS covering the Child and Adult Workforce required.

* Experience supporting vulnerable young people and preventing homelessness is essential.

This is a physically demanding outreach position involving extensive walking across Birmingham each day and working outdoors in all weather conditions. Applicants must be fully comfortable with this aspect of the role.

Responsibilities

* Undertake proactive street and community outreach across Birmingham to identify and engage young people who may be homeless or at risk of rough sleeping.

* Build positive relationships with vulnerable young people, including those who may initially be reluctant to engage or present challenging behaviour.

* Help young people remain in their existing accommodation or secure suitable alternatives to prevent homelessness.

* Conduct initial assessments and develop evidence-based support plans with young people and their families.

* Facilitate mediation meetings between young people, family members and others who may have excluded them from their accommodation.

* Provide high-quality homelessness prevention and housing options advice.

* Advocate for young people and help them access benefits, housing, health services and other specialist support.

* Work flexibly and respond effectively to changing situations and priorities in the community.

Candidate Requirements

* Previous experience supporting vulnerable or challenging young people.

* Experience with in homelessness, housing support, youth work, residential care, social work, probation, community work or a related service.

* A proactive, hardworking and resilient approach, with a willingness to get stuck in.

* Able to build rapport using an approachable, patient and empathetic communication style.

* Adaptable and comfortable working in a fast-moving outreach environment.

* Physically able and willing to walk extensively and work outdoors in different weather conditions.

* Experience delivering frontline triage or assessments would be desirable.

* Enhanced Child and Adult Workforce DBS, or willingness to obtain one.
