Job DescriptionLocation:
Unit A Bracebridge Street. HATS Group delivers over 2 million passenger movements annually and operates a fleet of more than 800 vehicles.
A PSV Company bus driver is responsible for operating a passenger‑carrying vehicle (PCV) while ensuring good customer service and a safe, comfortable journey throughout the HATS bus network.
Main Duties and Responsibilities- Ensure safety and wellbeing of clients throughout the journey and handover.
- Wear high‑visibility PPE in vehicle movement areas.
- Observe speed limits within bus depots and school premises.
- Check the vehicle prior to service: conduct a safety walk‑round, report defects immediately, complete the Vehicle Defect Card or enter defects electronically, and keep the vehicle clean and tidy.
- Comply with laws and company regulations regarding mobile phone use, smoking, and prohibited equipment (e.g., gaming consoles) while on duty.
- Report all safety accidents/incidents using the company’s reporting procedure.
- Understand emergency and evacuation plans, keep the bus cab area safe and tidy, and maintain high customer service standards.
- Inform passengers of road closures, diversions, and other journey information.
- Drive the company’s vehicles safely, legally, and professionally, meeting the timetable without running early or late when safe.
- Maintain a valid driving licence and CPC licence at all times; have them available for inspection at any time.
- Report for work on time, in the correct dress code, and with the required equipment; do not report when overtired or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Follow notification procedures for absences and report all incidents promptly.
- Participate in a yearly appraisal, provide feedback for service improvement, and comply with all HATS policies and procedures.
- Undertake any reasonable requests made by HATS.
- Work flexible hours with core windows 07:00‑09:00 and 14:30‑16:30; accommodate additional duties as required.
- Licence: D1 category with no restrictions and CPC licence in date for the vehicle type.
- Medical renewals up to date.
- Report any licence changes that affect driving entitlement to line manager.
- Licence available for inspection every six months.
- Follow absence notification procedures.
- Valid current UK (or acceptable other) driver’s licence, with no more than 6 penalty points.
- Good understanding of written and spoken English.
- Proven eligibility to work in the UK and ability to provide suitable references.
- Professional driving experience and a bachelor of vehicle safety standards.
- Completion of 7 hours of DCPC training each year.
- Basic secondary school education or equivalent.
- Prepared to undertake further training such as NVQ when required.
- Ability to drive a vehicle to a competent and safe standard.
- Good written and verbal communication skills using English.
