Traffic Management Highways Maintenance Apprentice

We're looking for a Traffic Management Highways Maintenance Apprentice to join our Transportation Team based in Birmingham, working towards a Level 2 apprenticeship in Highways Maintenance.

Build and maintain infrastructure for the highways, rail, aviation and ports sectors, with a common goal of connecting people. We provide transport solutions that are sustainable, long-lasting and that promote various methods of transport

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a leading construction and infrastructure services company on an apprenticeship. Whilst working towards a recognised qualification, you'll be able to put your learnings into practice in your day-to-day role, helping you progress within your chosen career.

Location: Thimble Mill Lane Depot, Birmingham

Hours: 40 hours per week

Salary: £20,800

Start Date: September 2026

How does an apprenticeship work?

As a Traffic Management Highways Maintenance Apprentice you'll be enrolled onto a Level 2 apprenticeship in Highways Maintenance, giving you the opportunity to earn whilst you learn. You'll work closely with the Transportation team support in the overall design, build and maintenance of infrastructure for highways with a common goal of connecting people.

Your Day To Day Will Include
  • Provide traffic management support when completing carriageway, footway and drainage works
  • Learn how to complete traffic management risk assessment
  • Support in reviewing and implementation of traffic management for minor works
  • Hand sweeping, cleaning, litter picking, loading, unloading and general handling of materials and equipment
What are we looking for?
  • Are 18 years or older by the time the position starts
  • Have GCSEs at grades 3 – 9 (GCSE D or above) including Maths and English OR Functional Skills level 1 in English and Maths
  • Are punctual, self‑motivated, and willing to learn
  • Have the ability to handle physical work in varying weather conditions
  • Have the ability to work collaboratively with a team
