My client is seeking an experienced and proactive Senior Freight Import Operator to join their growing operations team based in Sutton Coldfield. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing end-to-end import shipments, ensuring exceptional customer service, operational efficiency, and compliance with all customs and regulatory requirements.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced freight professional looking to take ownership of key accounts while supporting the wider operations team in delivering outstanding service.
Sea Import Operator Responsibilities- Manage the full import process from booking through to final delivery.
- Coordinate sea freight import shipments.
- Liaise with overseas agents, shipping lines, airlines, hauliers, customs authorities, and customers.
- Prepare and process all import documentation accurately and efficiently.
- Ensure customs entries and clearance procedures comply with current legislation.
- Monitor shipment progress and proactively communicate updates to customers.
- Resolve operational issues, delays, and customer queries promptly.
- Manage key customer accounts and build strong long-term relationships.
- Negotiate rates and work closely with suppliers and service providers.
- Ensure all jobs are completed within agreed KPIs and profitability targets.
- Maintain accurate records and update internal freight management systems.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience within freight forwarding imports.
- Strong knowledge of sea freight and road freight import procedures.
- Working knowledge of UK customs processes and import documentation.
- Experience using freight management systems and customs software.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously.
- Strong customer service and relationship management abilities.
- Confident communicator with a proactive and solutions-focused approach.
- Experience with in a fast-paced logistics or freight forwarding environment.
- Competitive salary of up to £34,000 per annum, dependent on experience.
