Job Title:
Vocational Tutor
We are looking for a qualified tutor to teach Employability and Digital Functional Skills to learners aged 16 to 19 (or up to 24 with an EHCP) across our Durham‑based sites.
Responsibilities- Deliver Digital Functional Skills and Customer Service lessons.
- Produce schemes of work and design innovative lesson plans.
- Lead group activities and individual training sessions following the curriculum.
- Set learning objectives and targets for achievement.
- Provide one‑to‑one support to learners when required.
- Collaborate with Lead Teachers to drive quality and meet KPIs.
- Professional qualification relevant to the teaching area or relevant experience.
- Teaching qualification equivalent to a Degree, PGCE or Certificate in Education.
- Experience teaching in an alternative provision environment, including students with EAL, SEN, speech and language difficulties, and other complex needs.
- Experience working with disengaged or hard‑to‑reach young people aged 14 to 19.
- Ability to motivate and encourage learners, set high expectations and manage challenging behaviour.
- Knowledge of statutory requirements around equal opportunities, discrimination, health and safety, SEN and safeguarding of children.
- Access to a car and a full driving licence.
Salary: £23,807.26 – £33,725.36 pro‑rata, depending on experience (based on £26,097 to £36,969 FTE per annum).
Hours:
Full time, 37 hours per week.
Contract:
Permanent, Term Time Only (41 weeks).
Site allocation:
The role supports up to three Durham sites with a rotating day schedule – one day at Stanley, two days at Peterlee, one day at Bishop (exact dates to be agreed).
All suitable candidates must be willing to undergo child protection screening and an enhanced DBS check. The role requires a full UK driving licence and access to a car.
