This role is an exciting opportunity to join the adult bladder and bowel service within the Community Directorate, based at Innovation House, Bishop Auckland. The post is countywide, requiring local travel and flexible working primarily Monday to Friday (08:30‑16:30). The successful applicant will work across clinics, home visits, care homes and the office environment, developing specialist skills in bladder and bowel dysfunction.
Mainduties of the job
• Deliver high‑quality care to patients with bladder and bowel dysfunction.
• Manage assessment, triage and appointment allocation autonomously.
• Provide patient education and support, ensuring clear communication.
• Champion continence care and promote best practice.
• Lead change, quality improvement and ongoing nursing development.
• Use budgetary control, IQEW and clinical supervision effectively.
• Assessment and management of patients with complex bladder and/or bowel dysfunction.
• Perform clinics and home visits across County Durham and Darlington, including telephone and face‑to‑face assessments.
• Lead and manage the service and staff in the absence of Lead Nurses.
• Contribute to service and policy development, education and training.
• Review and submit the full job description for further roles and responsibilities.
- Teaching certificate or equivalent
- Evidence of continuing professional development at post‑grad level
- IT skills and in‑depth knowledge of complex bladder and bowel dysfunction
- Independent / Community prescribing qualification
- Leadership / Management development course (or willingness to undertake)
- Knowledge of budgetary control
- Recent, ongoing nursing development
- Experience of change and quality improvement (audit and risk management)
- Clinical supervision experience
- Complex bladder & bowel management
- Independent, unsupervised, high‑quality, evidence‑based care
- Adherence to deadlines and task completion
- Complaint handling and reporting
- Clinical community experience
- Research experience
- Appraisal, performance & HR skills
- Registered Nurse (adult or child) on Part 1 of the NMC register
- Valid UK NMC PIN
- Community prescribing or willingness to work towards
- Knowledge of complex bladder and bowel care issues
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Desire to develop themselves and others, openness to new ideas, willingness to share experience
- Experience in delivering education and training
- Organisational and leadership skills
- Triage ability
- Knowledge of budgetary control
- Ability to travel independently across the county to fulfill post requirements
- Flexibility to work in differing environments
- Valid full UK driving licence (for driving posts)
