AboutThe Role
Help shape a more sustainable future across UK rail infrastructure. As an Environmental Advisor at Babcock, you’ll help ensure that our Rail operations meet legal, environmental and sustainability obligations while driving improvements across our projects. You’ll be central to enhancing environmental performance, advising on best practice, mitigating risks, and protecting sensitive habitats within the UK rail network.
Day‑to‑day responsibilities:
- Provide environmental advice and guidance to site teams on legislation, best practice and compliance.
- Manage and update project documentation including Environmental Management Plans, Emergency Response Plans and Risk Registers.
- Conduct site audits and inspections to ensure legal compliance and drive improvements.
- Monitor environmental and waste‑related performance, analysing data and producing reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Lead or support investigations into environmental incidents and support root‑cause analysis.
- Previous experience in a construction or engineering environment.
- Experience implementing or working with an Environmental Management System certified to ISO 14001.
- Strong knowledge of current UK environmental legislation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to work to tight deadlines.
- Degree (or equivalent) in an Environmental or Engineering discipline.
- IEMA Certificate (Associate level or above).
- Membership of IEMA (Associate or Full).
- Environmental auditing qualification.
