We are currently recruiting for an experienced Freelance Site Manager to join a leading civil engineering main contractor on a major aviation infrastructure project running for 18–24 months. This is a long-term contract opportunity offering a competitive day rate and the chance to play a key leadership role on a high-profile scheme.
The project includes complex airside and landside infrastructure works, including structural steel works, piling, foundations, and pile caps, so experience managing similar heavy civil engineering packages within regulated or safety-critical environments is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
* Take full responsibility for day-to-day site operations across designated work areas
* Manage and coordinate subcontractors delivering structural steel, piling, foundation, and pile cap works
* Drive programme delivery and ensure works are completed in line with project milestones
* Lead daily briefings, inductions, and toolbox talks
* Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with approved RAMS and lift plans
* Maintain strict health & safety compliance in line with aviation and principal contractor standards
* Oversee temporary works coordination and ensure permits are in place
* Monitor workforce productivity and manage labour, plant, and materials efficiently
* Work closely with the engineering and commercial teams to manage variations and resolve site issues
* Maintain site diaries and ensure accurate record keeping
* Liaise directly with the client and key stakeholders during inspections and progress reviews
Requirements:
* Proven experience as a Site Manager within civil engineering or major infrastructure projects
* Strong background managing structural steel, piling, foundations, and pile cap packages
* Experience working in aviation or other highly regulated environments (highly desirable)
* SMSTS (essential)
* CSCS Card (essential)
* First Aid at Work (essential)
* Temporary Works Coordinator (advantageous)
* Strong leadership and communication skills
* Ability to manage multiple subcontractors and work streams simultaneously
* Proactive approach to problem-solving and programme delivery
This is an excellent opportunity to secure a long-term role on a prestigious aviation infrastructure project with a leading contractor.
