Senior Engineer

Location: Bishops Stortford

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Engineer on either a freelance or perm basis to join a leading civil engineering main contractor on a major aviation infrastructure project running for 18–24 months. This is an excellent long-term opportunity offering a competitive day rate, with strong project continuity for the right candidate.

The project involves complex airside and landside infrastructure works, including structural steel works, piling, foundations, and pile caps, so experience within aviation, major infrastructure, or highly regulated environments is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

* Lead and manage engineering activities across allocated sections of works

* Oversee delivery of structural steel, piling, foundations, and pile cap packages

* Provide technical support to site teams and subcontractors

* Ensure works are delivered safely, on time, and within budget

* Review and approve RAMS, ITPs, lift plans, and technical documentation

* Manage setting out activities and ensure engineering accuracy

* Oversee quality control and ensure compliance with project specifications

* Coordinate with planners to monitor progress against programme

* Produce and maintain site documentation including:

* Task Briefings (TBTs)

* Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs)

* As-built records

* Temporary Works documentation

* Liaise with the client, design teams, and key stakeholders

* Support the commercial team with change management and record keeping

* Mentor and support junior engineers

Requirements:

* Proven experience as a Senior Engineer within civil engineering or major infrastructure projects

* Demonstrable experience delivering structural steel, piling, foundations, and pile cap works

* Previous aviation or airside experience (highly desirable)

* Strong understanding of QA processes and technical compliance

* Competent in setting out and surveying equipment

* Engineering qualification (HNC/HND/Degree or equivalent experience)

* SMSTS or SSSTS preferred

* CSCS Card (essential)

* Strong communication and leadership skills

* Ability to work in highly regulated and safety-critical environments
