Role Description

The Multi Skilled Maintenance Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in Bishop's Stortford. This role involves carrying out planned preventive maintenance and reactive repairs on production and packaging equipment to minimise downtime and optimise efficiency. The engineer will diagnose mechanical and electrical faults, replace parts, and ensure machinery is set up and running to specification. Day-to-day tasks include supporting continuous improvement initiatives, completing maintenance records, and collaborating with production and quality teams to maintain high safety and hygiene standards.

The engineer will also contribute to equipment upgrades and installations, while following all health and safety procedures and food manufacturing compliance requirements.

Qualifications
  • Strong background in Maintenance Engineering and Maintenance & Repair within a fast-paced manufacturing or food production environment.
  • Proficiency in Equipment Maintenance and Preventive Maintenance, including fault finding, diagnostics, and routine servicing of production machinery.
  • Solid Electrical Maintenance skills, with experience working on automated equipment, control systems, and safety circuits.
  • Relevant technical qualification (e.g., NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent in engineering, electrical, or mechanical discipline).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and maintenance manuals, and to use common engineering tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to continuous improvement, reliability, and equipment performance.
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations, and experience working in a highly regulated environment (food manufacturing experience advantageous).
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary engineering and production team.
