We are currently recruiting for an experienced Freelance Logistics Manager to join a leading civil engineering main contractor on a major aviation infrastructure project running for 18–24 months. This is a long-term opportunity offering a competitive day rate and the chance to play a critical role on a high-profile, safety-critical scheme.
The project involves complex airside and landside infrastructure works, including structural steel works, piling, foundations, and pile caps. Due to the constrained environment and operational airport interface, strong logistics management experience within major infrastructure or aviation projects is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop and manage the project logistics strategy in line with programme requirements
* Coordinate all site deliveries, plant movements, and material call-offs
* Manage traffic management plans, haul routes, and access/egress controls
* Oversee laydown areas and storage of structural steel, piling materials, and reinforcement
* Liaise with airside operations teams to ensure compliance with airport restrictions and permits
* Coordinate crane operations and major lifts in conjunction with site management teams
* Implement and manage booking systems for deliveries and subcontractors
* Ensure safe segregation of plant, workforce, and operational airport activities
* Monitor and control waste management and site housekeeping standards
* Work closely with commercial and planning teams to forecast logistics requirements
* Maintain detailed records and produce regular logistics reports
Requirements:
* Proven experience as a Logistics Manager on major civil engineering or infrastructure projects
* Experience with in aviation or highly regulated, live environments (highly desirable)
* Strong understanding of traffic management and plant coordination
* SMSTS (essential)
* CSCS Card (essential)
* Knowledge of lift planning and heavy materials handling
* Strong organisational and coordination skills
* Ability to manage multiple subcontractors and high-volume deliveries
* Excellent communication skills and ability to liaise with key stakeholders
