Communications Specialist - State of North Dakota
Location:
Onsite at the State Capitol in Bismarck, ND. This position may be eligible for part‑time telecommuting after the probationary period.
Hiring Range: $4,800–$5,300 per month plus full state benefit package.

Office of Outreach and Engagement, Department of Public Instruction.
The North Dakota Department of Public Instruction (NDDPI) seeks a detail‑oriented, creative Communications Specialist to support strategic communications across multiple digital platforms. The role focuses on creating high‑quality content, managing web and social media updates, and designing visually engaging materials that advance the department's messaging, priorities, and outreach efforts.
Key Responsibilities- Support the development, drafting, and publishing of digital content across NDDPI platforms, including website pages, newsletters, email bulletins, and social media.
- Create visually compelling graphics, templates, and layouts for digital and print communications using Adobe Creative Suite.
- Assist with website updates and basic digital content maintenance to ensure information is current, clear, and easy to navigate.
- Plan, schedule, and manage content across official NDDPI social media accounts in alignment with communications goals and campaigns.
- Track digital performance analytics (web and social media) and provide insights to improve engagement and audience reach.
- Work collaboratively with internal program teams to gather information, develop content, and ensure brand consistency.
- Manage projects independently, prioritize tasks, and take initiative to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Maintain digital file organization, records, and communications assets to support efficient team operations.
- Provide basic technical and creative support for presentations, virtual events, and public‑facing communications.
Associate’s degree in Digital Media, Communications, Graphic Design, Marketing, Web Design, or a related field, and at least two years of professional experience in digital communications, digital content creation, graphic design, or a related area.
OR
Bachelor’s degree in Digital Media, Communications, Graphic Design, Marketing, Web Design, or a related field, and at least one year of professional experience in digital communications, digital content creation, graphic design, or a related area.
In Addition, Candidates Must Demonstrate- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.).
- Strong editing and visual communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Experience with content management systems (e.g., Drupal, Word Press).
- Familiarity with social media strategy, scheduling tools, and analytics.
- Experience working in a, education, or public‑sector environment.
- Knowledge of basic HTML/CSS, website structure, and digital publishing best practices.
- Experience with digital accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG), document remediation, or communications accessibility tools.
