About the RoleThe North Dakota Department of Transportation, Roadway Design Division, Bismarck, ND, is looking for a Transportation Engineer to develop reports, plans, and specifications for construction projects on state and federal highway systems. The engineer will produce environmental documents, obtain federal approvals, and provide technical support to consultants and contractors. The ideal candidate is a problem solver with strong communication skills, attention to detail, and experience with Computer-Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) programs.
Responsibilities- Prepare preliminary engineering studies and environmental reports for impact analysis, cost estimating, engineering analysis, and decision-making.
- Develop complex project plans to communicate engineering analysis to contractors and project stakeholders.
- Schedule and coordinate project development, ensuring sequencing and coordination to keep projects on schedule.
- Provide technical assistance to consultants and designers; act as the primary contact for information, decisions, and data related to projects.
- Transportation Engineer III
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
- Four years of professional-level engineering work experience.
- Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam as required by the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
- Class D driver’s license for travel to meetings and project locations.
- Transportation Engineer II
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
- Two years of professional-level engineering work experience.
- Eligibility to write the Fundamentals of Engineering exam.
- Class D driver’s license for travel to meetings and project locations.
- Transportation Engineer I
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
- Eligibility to write the Fundamentals of Engineering exam.
- Class D driver’s license for travel to meetings and project locations.
- A related degree may substitute for the civil engineering degree at all levels.
