We are looking for a candidate who identifies with this mission and has a passion for serving the citizens in our great state as an Emergency Dispatcher.

As our Communications Center Training Officer, you will be the primary trainer for one of the four work units in State Radio and be the acting Team Lead while the Team Lead is gone. Additional duties include being the first line of emergency response by answering incoming 911 and 1-800 state emergency incoming calls for the designated areas throughout the State of North Dakota.

Duties include receiving emergency and non-emergency calls from the public, quickly assessing the situation, determining the appropriate response, and dispatching emergency services such as law enforcement, fire department units, or medical response teams while maintaining a calm and professional demeanor under often stressful conditions.

You will work rotating shifts based on a 16‑week cycle where each team member works four (4) 12‑hour shifts and then has four (4) days off. Each four‑day shift will alternate between days and nights, which provides ample time adjustment between day and night shifts.

• Primary trainer for one of the four work units in State Radio.
• Act as Team Lead while the Team Lead is absent.
• Answer incoming 911 and 1-800 state emergency calls for designated areas.
• Receive and assess emergency and non‑emergency calls from the public.
• Dispatch appropriate emergency services such as law enforcement, fire department units, or medical response teams.
• Maintain calm and professional demeanor under stressful conditions.
• Work rotating shifts based on a 16‑week cycle: four 12‑hour shifts followed by four days off, alternating days and nights.

• Legally authorized to work in the United States; OTAG will not provide sponsorship.
• Applicants with felony convictions will not be considered due to the nature of this position and must successfully complete the interview process, reference checks, background investigation and pre‑employment drug and hearing tests.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum two years experience as an emergency dispatcher/public safety telecommunicator.
• Basic computer experience and typing skills with a minimum of 40 words per minute.
• Required certifications within six months of hire:
  Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD), and National Crime Information Center (NCIC).
• Must live within 30 minutes of the work location.
