COMPENSATION: $114,452-$143,065 based on education and directly related experience.

Position Description & DetailsBismarck State College is seeking a forward-thinking Chief Information Officer to lead our Information Technology Services & Solutions (ITSS) division and guide the strategic vision for technology across campus. This senior leader will play a vital role in strengthening our digital landscape, ensuring secure, reliable, and innovative systems that support both academic success and operational excellence.
The ideal candidate brings a strong blend of technical expertise, leadership experience, and a genuine commitment to serving a vibrant college community.
Key Responsibilities- Provide executive leadership for all campus IT operations, including cybersecurity, strategic planning, network and hardware infrastructure, software licensing, technology acquisition, and both short- and long-range planning.
- Oversee, mentor, and support ITSS staff through thoughtful supervision, training, and performance management.
- Lead major technology initiatives and manage project planning, development, implementation, and evaluation for campus software, services, hardware, and infrastructure.
- Ensure the campus network remains secure, resilient, and continuously connected across voice, data, and video systems.
- Manage the ITSS budget and guide resource allocation to support cost-effective, mission-aligned solutions for campus needs.
- Direct ITSS programs and services such as the Help Desk, computer labs, campus networking, LAN/WAN connectivity, communications infrastructure, computing facilities, and system/data/network security.
- Lead the cybersecurity team, implementing policies, monitoring compliance, coordinating training, and staying ahead of emerging threats and best practices.
- Develop and maintain campus-wide technology policies and collaborate with NDUS CIOs and the NDUS Security Council to implement system-level standards.
- Partner with colleagues across the college, university system, and state to identify and integrate technologies that advance institutional goals.
- Review and authorize IT projects, coordinate efforts with NDUS resources, and support NDUS-provided services and solutions.
- Participate in key NDUS and campus committees, ensuring ITSS is well-represented in planning, compliance, and strategic work.
- Lead vendor engagement and procurement efforts, including RFP development, contract coordination, hardware/software selection, and project implementation oversight.
- Recommend technology upgrades and improvements across systems, infrastructure, and campus computing environments.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to design and implement IT policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Work closely with NDUS to enhance efficiency through shared resources and aligned initiatives.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the evolving needs of the college.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science or a related area and seven years of experience, or an appropriate associate degree and ten years of experience.
- Five years of experience in the supervision of personnel and demonstrated administrative leadership and management skills in positions of significant responsibility.
- Experience with budgetary responsibility, strategic planning, policy creation, and administration.
- Advanced knowledge and experience in a wide range of information technology.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to understand and carry out complex instructions.
- Good customer service and interpersonal skills, ability to promote collaboration and cooperation among diverse constituencies, ability to relate to people of varying ages, backgrounds, and technical skills.
