Job Summary

The Senior Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as an experienced caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long term care. Demonstrates expert level experience as a certified nursing assistant and assists other staff as needed.

Provides resident-oriented nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned resident under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). Delivers age‑appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of the resident as per care plan. is a member of the nursing team and is expected to adhere to infection prevention and control policies and Personal Protective Equipment use, leading in problem‑solving and maintaining high accountability.

Assists with basic health‑care needs including bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, recording vital signs, and providing psychosocial support to the assigned resident. Helps residents transfer, reposition, and walk using correct transfer techniques and equipment, and provides range‑of‑motion and passive exercises. Completes tasks related to food preparation and dining while creating a positive dining experience. Assists residents with meals and snacks, providing water and supplements as appropriate.

The NA assists providers and nursing staff with procedures as needed, documents resident interactions and outcomes related to care, behavior, activity, and dietary. Communicates changes in resident condition to the charge nurse. Collects non‑invasive body‑fluid specimens and gathers vital signs. Provides housekeeping and laundry services to keep residents’ living areas clean and operational. Supports wellness and recreational programs and encourages resident participation.

May participate in departmental or organizational committees and task forces as required.

Responsible for completing tasks related to the Restorative Nursing program, including documentation, scheduling and leading restorative programs.

Qualifications

High school graduate or general equivalency diploma (GED) preferred, but not required.

Minimum age of 16.

Two years’ clinical or nursing assistant experience in long‑term care preferred.

Required Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing.

Satisfactorily completes yearly department‑specific competency testing and maintains a record of continuing education credits for each year. A minimum of 12 hours of continuing education is required annually and all department‑specific certifications are maintained.

May be required to complete Restorative Nursing training within 6 months.

When applicable, certified and registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry.

Depending on facility and required responsibilities, this role may classify as a Sanford Category II Driver requiring a motor vehicle report and proof of a valid driver’s license. The employee must also be medically qualified to perform the essential driving functions of the position per the Sanford Driving Policy.
