Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg night shift position with post-surgical care responsibilities and floating requirements.
Responsibilities

• Position is in the Med Surg 3CC unit within an acute care setting

• 30-bed unit caring for patients after total joint, spinal, abdominal, urological, and bariatric surgeries as well as medical overflow

• Nurse to patient ratios are 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights

• Unit uses Epic EMR system

• Works 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend required

• Will be first to float to medical or telemetry units as needed

• Charge nurse present on all shifts, occasionally taking low acuity assignments at night

• Block scheduling considered based on unit needs

• Primary duties include caring for post-surgical patients with drains, ostomies, and post-op needs including early ambulation

• Bedside shift report is standard practice

• Supportive team environment with 1 tech for every 12 patients

• Remote tele packs used with monitor techs responsible for interpretation

• Nurses are not required to read strips or titrate most drips but may infuse heparin, use PCA pumps, and administer TPN

• RT is responsible for respiratory treatments; nurses use nasal cannula as needed

• Scrubs of any color are permitted

• Holiday coverage required as assigned

• RTO not to exceed 7 days per 13-week contract; additional time off will not be approved

• First time travelers are welcome to apply
Requirements

• Active ND or compact RN license required at time of consideration

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required

• Minimum of 2 years recent RN experience

• Surgical, post-op, or early ambulation experience preferred

• Experience with Epic EMR preferred

• References must include a supervisor from within the last year and a peer or supervisor from the last three years

• Copy of driver's license required for consideration

• Cannot have been employed in any capacity (full time, part time, or PRN) by Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity facilities within the past year

• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
