American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg-Oncology RN for a 26-week acute care assignment requiring 2+ years of experience and ND or compact RN licensure.
Requirements- Active ND or compact RN license required
- BLS and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Experience with trach and BiPAP preferred but not required
- Lasix drip experience preferred but not required
- Driver's license copy required for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
- Acute care Med/Surg-Oncology unit in a Level 2 trauma facility with 31 beds
- Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with strokes, HTN, COPD, cellulitis, CHF, A fib, chest pain, post-ICU MI, AMS/behavioral cases, some telemetry, surgical overflow, and oncology patients receiving chemo
- Nurse to patient ratios are 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights
- Patient care techs support the unit at a 1:8 ratio
- Charge nurse available as a resource on each shift
- Tele/monitor techs available; RNs are not required to read their own telemetry strips
- RNs required to titrate drips, commonly Lasix and Heparin
- RT equipment on unit includes stable BiPAP and established trachs with blow‑by oxygen; RNs troubleshoot only
- 12‑hour day shifts ) with every other weekend requirement
- Holiday coverage as needed
- No call or standby requirement
- Floating required to other Med/Surg units and occasionally ER holds; no floating to mom/baby
- EPIC EMR used
- Uses EPIC charting system
- Core staff administer chemo to oncology patients; no on‑site oncology provider currently
- Unit offers 1-2 shifts of floor‑specific orientation
- Block scheduling may be considered if unit needs are met
- No specific scrub color required
- Described as a supportive, family‑oriented unit with strong team culture
- First‑time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any Common Spirit‑affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year
- Up to 7 days of RTO may be requested upfront per 13‑week contract; additional RTO will not be approved after submission
