Responsibilities Summary

The Transportation Officer is responsible for securely transporting detainees and ensuring vehicles are safe and well-maintained.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct pre-trip, during-trip, and post-trip inspections of all vehicles.
  • Provide written Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) and report safety defects.
  • Ensure all permits and licenses are valid before trips; notify the Transportation Manager of issues.
  • Verify vehicles have necessary safety equipment; report problems beforehand.
  • Complete all paperwork accurately and submit reports per policies.
  • Secure detainees properly during transport; ensure all documentation is complete.
  • Follow all safety laws and policies during transport.
  • Report accidents immediately with detailed information.
  • Deliver vehicles for servicing and pick them up post-maintenance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least three (3) years' experience in law enforcement, corrections, detention, or military police.
  • Minimum age 21; U.S. citizen; valid U.S. driver license.
  • 80 hours of verified driver’s training.
  • State Firearms and Security Guard Licenses.
  • Completion of approved training in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military.
  • Clean driving record for past three years.
  • Pass company and DOT drug and alcohol tests.
  • Ability to work overtime and extended travel with overnight stays.
  • Handle physical and mental stress; punctuality; alertness.
  • Ability to work up to 16 hours within a 24-hour period.
  • Ability to work with computers.
  • May require obtaining a USDOT medical certificate.
