Position Title
Security Officer – Closes January 2, 2026 at 5:00 pm
Salary and BenefitsBase pay range: $17.00/hr – $17.00/hr salary: $17.00 per hour.
Job SummaryThe Security Officer will perform vehicle and foot patrols on campus, conduct building safety checks, issue parking citations, and respond to alarms and calls. The Officer is responsible for maintaining records, coordinating with law enforcement, and ensuring the safety of students, staff, and visitors.
Responsibilities- Complete vehicle and foot patrol duties on campus.
- Patrol for unusual and suspicious activities, theft, fires, and people safety.
- Investigate and respond to civil disturbances and potential illegal activities; report to supervisor and local law enforcement.
- Present a clean, neat and professional appearance at all times.
- Complete a shift patrol log and incident reports by the end of each shift.
- Answer incoming calls and direct them to the appropriate individual or department after hours and weekends.
- Attend security meetings and training sessions.
- Conduct building checks to ensure security and report any safety or fire hazards.
- Lock and unlock designated buildings and gates as requested and scheduled.
- Issue parking citations for violations per the UTTC Safety & Security Policy.
- Cooperate with city, county, state, and federal law enforcement agencies as directed.
- Escort people or property to desired destinations when safety is a concern.
- Respond to alarms and dispatched calls, deciding actions based on situation and facts known.
- Assist individuals in buildings or on campus who need directions or campus information.
- Multitask calls, radio activity, persons, and incidents simultaneously.
- Prioritize tasks and incidents for timely response.
- Maintain confidentiality for all incidents involving students, staff, and visitors.
- Take appropriate action in a timely manner based on incident details.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Work evenings, holidays, and weekends on a rotating basis; may be called for shift coverage.
- Minimum 30‑minute paid meal period during shifts exceeding five hours.
- If only one officer is on duty, may be required to perform duties during the meal period.
- Sit and stand for long periods.
- Walk, run, bend over, stoop, reach, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Previous Security or Safety related experience (recommended but not required).
- Valid ND Driver’s License and insurable status under UTTC’s insurance carrier (copy required with application).
- Successfully pass a background check.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Strong communication skills.
- Knowledge of spelling, grammar, and punctuation for report writing.
- Ability to use a computer and learn new software.
