Job Summary:

Employee certified to administer medications, in accordance with state and federal laws, under the supervision of licensed staff to residents within facilities. Provide residents with direct care to assure quality of life in a home‑like environment while offering additional support to family and visitors. Maintains professional behavior while functioning as an interdisciplinary team member meeting state and federal guidelines.

Supervision:

Administers medication under the supervision of a licensed nurse. In some situations may be required to supervise other staff or work independently.

Critical Functions:

Administers prescribed medications to residents, maintains related medical records under supervision of a licensed nurse, verifies resident identity, records drug name, dosage and time, observes administration, takes vital signs, documents reasons for non‑administration, provides direct patient care (bathing, dressing, feeding), manages medication inventories, and reports any unexpected reactions.

Experience:
  • High school graduate or minimum age of 18 years
  • Completion of Certified Medication Technician or Med Level One course and state certification
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents, co‑workers, visitors, and families
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and resident confidentiality
  • Accurate observation, performance, and reporting skills
  • Required to work under direct supervision of a licensed nurse

  • Able to administer prescribed medication and maintain records
  • Effective verbal and written communication of resident needs and ADLs
  • Effective communication with supervisor, peers, family members, and visitors
  • Maintain resident confidentiality (HIPAA) and adhere to rights
  • Recognize and adhere to care plans, maintain a safe environment, use safety equipment
  • Demonstrate professional behavior and performance as an employee
Essential Functions:
  • Preparation, administration, and documentation of all medications (excluding parenteral unless licensed); may provide resident treatments as ordered by physician
  • Provide direct physical and emotional care, including personal hygiene, transferring, lifting, record keeping, and confidentiality
  • Recognize and report changes in resident condition to charge staff promptly
  • Accurately observe, record, and report resident care, condition, nutrients intake, and outputs
  • Administer prescribed medications, maintain records, verify identity, record name, dosage and time, observe administration, and document any non‑administration or reactions
  • May be required to administer tube feeding and take vital signs; report any unexpected reactions or lack thereof
  • Responsible for counting and documenting narcotics at shift start or end
  • Support co‑workers by providing assistance as needed
  • Report any accidents or incidents involving residents, staff, or visitors in a timely manner
  • Communicate through shift reports to staff
  • Admit, discharge, or transfer residents with proper documentation and required forms
  • Work independently or with peers; complete eight (8) hour shifts unless otherwise designated; provide first aid when needed
  • Meet requirements of Certified Nursing Assistant and Certified Medication Technician; review both job descriptions
  • Valid driver’s license and meet driving requirements if applicable
