Sonographer or Vascular Scientist in Diagnostic & Clinical Support, Band 7, NHS AfC, Permanent, 37.5 hours per week, full and part time roles available.

Royal Blackburn Hospital, Blackburn. Salary £49,387 - £56,515 per annum. Job

Reporting to the Senior Clinical Lead, the successful candidate will be part of a friendly and supportive sonography team, teaching students and providing high‑quality patient care.
Main Responsibilities- Perform a full range of ultrasound examinations including obstetric, gynaecological, general abdominal, vascular and other procedures as required.
- Develop clinical competence and stay up to date with new techniques.
- Act as an expert practitioner, demonstrating advanced clinical competencies.
- Assist in establishing and updating departmental standards, guidelines, and protocols.
- Teach and mentor student and junior sonographers.
- Advise and liaise with radiology colleagues on imaging requests and alternative diagnostics.
- Ensure high‑quality imaging, interpret findings, and provide prompt formal reports.
- Maintain equipment, infection control, and safety standards.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and contribute to service improvement.
- Support extended hours and mobility across Trust sites as needed.
- Ultrasound accreditation via MSC/PGD or equivalent qualification.
- Experience with Radiology Information Systems and IT literacy.
- Continuing professional education and MDT working experience.
- Strong communication skills, empathy, and ability to explain complex information clearly.
- Independent working, self‑motivation, adaptability, and teamwork.
- Knowledge of NHS trusts’ policies, including disclosure and DBS requirements.
Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks are required for controlled or regulated activity. The cost of enhanced disclosure is £55.38, standard £27.38. Candidates for bank or volunteer posts are exempt from DBS costs.
