An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Registered Nurse to join the team on Ward 14 - Surgical High Care Unit at Blackpool Teaching Hospital.
We are a 20 bedded surgical ward that provides care for several specialities including general surgical, ENT, urology and gynaecology. We care for post operative patients admitted following elective surgeryas well as patients admitted through the emergency pathway via our Surgical Assessment Unit.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, forward-thinking nurse with a dynamic approach to join our motivated and supportive team.
You must be punctual, flexible and committed to the role with a determination to ensure patients on the ward receive the highest standards of care.
Our patients have varying degrees of dependency which will mean organising and prioritising care accordingly. You must be able to recognise and manage deteriorating patients.
You will be supported to care for a group of patients, providing clinical care, wound management, nutritional support, stoma care and post operative care of the unwell patient.
We are looking for an enthusiastic nurse who can work dynamically and at a fast pace to ensure safe and effective care delivery. As well as, someone that shows a caring attitude, respectful and keeps patients safety as a priority at all times.
You will work alongside members of the multidisciplinary team, medical staff acting as a role model and advocate for your patients.
You must be professional at all times and have excellent communication skills and be able to liaise with patients, relatives and other members of the multidisciplinary team as well as your colleagues on the ward.

As a Band 5 you will you will provide direct clinical care to surgical patients. Working alongside the nursing team, MDT and medical staff you will provide evidence based care.
Complete observations, escalating any concerns appropriately to the nurse in charge and medical teams. Providing wound care, preparing patients for theatre, admitting and discharging patients safely.
Be able to prioritise your workload whilst acting as an advocate for your patient, assessing and implementing their individual plan of care with accurate and concise documentation.
Be a clear communicator within your team and the wider service and act in a sensitive and professional manner at all times, promoting the Values of the Trust.
You will be trained to perform venepuncture and cannulation and IV drug administration, wound care and stoma care.

1. a) Assist trained staff to carry out nursing care ensuring the patients’ confidentiality and privacy are maintained.
