Job Summary and Qualifications

The Registered Nurse coordinates and delivers high‑quality, patient‑centered care in accordance with the specific requirements of the ICU department and consistent with state scope and specialty standards. In collaboration with medical providers and other members of the care team, the RN provides individualized, comprehensive, and compassionate care using nursing models such as “Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage.” The RN serves as an advocate for patients/families/caregivers and models a commitment to the organization’s vision, mission, and values to support an unparalleled patient experience and clinical outcomes.

  • Assesses patient condition during admission and during each shift as scheduled and/or as needed.
  • Measures and reports changes in patient status.
  • Performs procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by the medical provider(s). Documents the administration of care in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Performs the administration of prescribed medications. Monitors patient for therapeutic response and intervenes as appropriate.
  • Teaches patients/families/caregivers about medical condition, treatment plan, medications and side effects; translates complex terminology for complete understanding.
  • Teaches patients/families/caregivers about lifestyle changes and prepares them for future self‑management.
  • Manages a care team, providing oversight and delegation.
  • Act as interface between healthcare providers and community support systems for ongoing care needs.
  • Uses specialized equipment safely according to patient needs.
  • Manages Swan‑Ganz, arterial, CVP lines with appropriate intervention.
  • Manages ventilators, troubleshoots issues, collaborates with respiratory therapy and physicians.
  • Administers vasoactive, antiarrhythmic, inotropic, sedative and paralytic agents per policy.
  • Applies best practices to cared for sedated patients, minimizing injury risk.
  • Monitors cardiac rhythm, interprets data, identifies issues and applies interventions.
  • Provides care for immediate postoperative patient.
  • Provides care for potential organ/tissue donor patient.
  • Considers principles of death and dying, and provides emotional, spiritual, religious and cultural support to patients and families.
Qualifications
  • Associate Degree in Nursing or RN Diploma required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
  • 1 year applicable RN experience preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Licensed as a registered nurse in the applicable state(s) or holds an active compact license.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of start date.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification.
