Job Description

A Historian/Archeologist and Preservationist II, (Archeologist) full-time (40 hours/week) university staff position is available with the Virginia Tech Conservation Management Institute to support cultural resources management (CRM) at Marine Corps Base
- Quantico (MCBQ), Virginia. Incumbent will support CRM at MCBQ through the following:

  • Assisting in the development of a programmatic agreement with the State Historic Preservation Office.
  • Integration with natural resource management and conservation.
  • Surveying and inventorying historic and archeological resources.
  • Section 106 consultation.

The position will be located at Marine Corps Base-Quantico, Virginia near Stafford, Virginia.

Required Qualifications

  • A B.S. history, archaeology, anthropology, or a related field.
  • Strong professional experience or equivalent specialized training in archeological research, administration, or management.
  • At least some exposure to supervised field and analytic experience in general North American archeology.
  • Ability to analyze data, artifacts, and historical structures.
  • Experience with Global Positioning Systems and ESRI based GIS software is a plus.
  • Ability to perform basic statistical analysis of field data and report findings of research through written and oral communication.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in history, archaeology, anthropology, or a related field.
  • Previous experience working on military installations.
