This hands‑on role combines technical testing expertise with team leadership to ensure accurate results, dependable laboratory processes, and timely support for production.

Reporting to the Inspection Manager, you will coordinate laboratory work, train and develop employees, and collaborate with Quality, Engineering, and Operations to investigate material concerns and improve processes.

What You'll Do
  • Lead daily laboratory operations, assign work, set priorities, and coordinate staffing and coverage to meet testing deadlines.
  • Train, coach, and assess employees on testing methods, equipment, documentation, and safety requirements. Provide regular feedback, maintain training and competency records, and develop cross‑training plans.
  • Oversee and perform room‑temperature tensile testing, optical emission spectroscopy (OES), Brinell hardness testing, metallography, and sand testing.
  • Evaluate results using your knowledge of aluminum alloys, casting processes, heat treatment, microstructure, and mechanical properties.
  • Review test data for accuracy, completeness, and unusual trends; promptly expedite questionable or out‑of‑specification results.
  • Maintain testing procedures, sample identification, product traceability, and laboratory records.
  • Coordinate proficiency testing, equipment calibration, maintenance, laboratory audits, and corrective actions.
  • Work across departments to resolve material concerns and improve testing consistency and efficiency.

Maintain a safe, organized laboratory and reinforce PPE, environmental, and waste‑handling requirements.

What We're Looking For
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least three years of relevant materials testing or foundry experience.
  • Hands‑on experience with OES, room‑temperature tensile testing, Brinell hardness testing, sand testing, and metallography.
  • Working knowledge of aluminum casting alloys and how chemistry, heat treatment, and casting conditions affect material properties.
  • Ability to recognize common casting defects and interpret results against product and process requirements.
  • Ability to interpret test procedures and specifications, maintain accurate records, and clearly communicate technical findings.
  • Working knowledge of calibration controls, internal audits, and laboratory quality systems.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • A professional, fair, and respectful approach to employee supervision and collaboration.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience in an aluminum foundry.
  • Experience training or leading employees, evaluating testing competency, and resolving testing or process issues.
  • Familiarity with customer‑specific materials requirements and applicable laboratory standards.
  • Experience with ISO/IEC 17025 and/or Nadcap.
