About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join the North Locality as a full time Inclusion Lead. We are looking for an enthusiastic and resilient team member who has experience of working with education settings and other professionals to put in place child‑centred plans to prevent and respond to Children Missing out on Education.

  • Ill‑health referrals
  • Children and young people who are electively home educated (EHE)
  • Referring and reviewing of alternative provision (AP)

This is a demanding role so prioritisation, initiative and problem‑solving skills are essential. You will champion positive relationships, strength‑based approaches to ensure the right provision is in place for the young people and remove barriers to suitable education. You will use your leadership skills within this role, working closely with our partners, schools, and other education providers to ensure young people receive suitable education.

  • To ensure schools in a given locality are inclusive, and to work with schools and other partners to reduce the number of exclusions.
  • To ensure that suitable alternative provision is available for children who are unable to access education due to exclusion or illness.
  • Additional responsibilities
    • To foster a climate of inclusion in schools and ensure young people have access to full time education.
    • To work with the locality In Year Fair Access Panel to ensure that exclusions are minimized, and that all children are able to access suitable local provision.
    • To work with colleagues in the locality to ensure that vulnerable learners receive the early help and pupil support that they require to close the gap with their peers.
    • To lead on work with individual families where children are not attending regularly, working with schools and other providers and our own teams to support children in returning to school.
    • To work with business intelligence data to identify, track, and monitor children missing from education.
    • To drive the improvement in outcomes for children with SEND through close monitoring of their attendance, working with others in the team to develop an inclusive approach.
    • To work with parents and the wider community to promote positive relationships with parent and carer groups.
    • To review carefully every case where a parent chooses to home educate their child and coordinate with the rest of the zone team so that provision is monitored effectively within the scope of relevant legislation.
    • Liaise directly with schools and education providers to promote excellent outcomes for children who are in danger of exclusion with the aim of avoiding exclusion.
    • Develop bespoke packages of education for children who require provision other than that at school sites.
