This position sits within the Supply Chain team and plays a critical role in ensuring parts, components, and services are delivered on time to support train refurbishment, maintenance, and overhaul programmes. You'll work directly alongside Production Managers, Engineers, and Project Teams to ensure materials availability supports key delivery milestones and customer commitments.
This is a highly visible role where your ability to manage priorities, communicate effectively, and solve problems quickly will directly impact production output and project success.
The OpportunityAs a Project Buyer, you'll be responsible for the end-to-end procurement and expediting of materials required for ongoing rail projects. Working closely with Production and Engineering teams, you'll attend daily operational meetings to review priorities, identify potential supply risks, and proactively manage any issues that could impact delivery schedules
Buyers work closely with production operations, creating a collaborative environment where procurement professionals support the teams they serve directly. This provides excellent visibility, stronger stakeholder engagement, and the opportunity to make a real impact on operational performance.
Essential Hard Skills- Previous experience in a Buyer, Project Buyer, Procurement, or Purchasing role
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment
- Experience working closely with internal stakeholders including Production, Engineering, Operations, or Project teams
- Competent systems and ERP experience
- CIPS qualification
- Experience with in the rail industry or a similar engineering/manufacturing environment
- Milton Keynes
- 37 hours per week
- 08:00-16:00 Monday to Thursday
- 08:00-13:00 Friday
- Hybrid working available, with Mondays mandatory in the office and two office days per week required
