Construction Supervisor - Civil Engineering Works

Our client is a reputable civil engineering contractor undertaking various public and private works. We are seeking a diligent and hands-on Construction Supervisor to oversee day-to-day operations on project sites in and around Bloemfontein . This role is crucial for ensuring that construction activities are carried out safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of civil engineering principles and practical site experience.

You will be responsible for supervising a team of site workers, coordinating with subcontractors, and ensuring that materials and equipment are utilized effectively. This position requires strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and the ability to identify and resolve site-specific issues promptly. • Supervise and direct daily on-site construction activities, ensuring adherence to project plans and specifications.
• Monitor and enforce health, safety, and environmental regulations on the construction site.
• Coordinate the work of laborers, tradespeople, and subcontractors to ensure efficient project progress.
• Ensure that construction methods and workmanship meet the required quality standards.
• Inspect work in progress to identify any deviations from plans or potential problems.
• Manage site logistics, including material delivery, equipment deployment, and personnel movement.
• Maintain daily site logs, recording progress, manpower, incidents, and any challenges encountered.
• Liaise with the Project Manager or Engineer on site regarding progress, issues, and required resources.
• Assist in the training and development of site personnel.
• Ensure the proper maintenance and security of tools, equipment, and materials on site.

• A relevant qualification in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a trade certificate with extensive experience.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in a supervisory role on construction sites.
• Proven experience in civil engineering projects such as roadworks, earthworks, or basic infrastructure.
• Solid understanding of construction techniques, materials, and safety procedures.
• Knowledge of South African construction site regulations and best practices.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
• Problem-solving aptitude and ability to make sound decisions on site.
• First Aid and Basic Fire Fighting certification is advantageous.
• Physically fit and able to work in demanding site conditions.
