Senior Reservoir Engineer - Coal Bed Methane

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Reservoir Engineer with specialized knowledge in Coal Bed Methane (CBM) extraction to join their operations based near Bloemfontein . This role is critical for maximizing the recovery of methane from coal seams, contributing to the company's energy production targets. You will be responsible for reservoir characterization, performance analysis, production forecasting, and developing strategies for enhanced gas recovery.

The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise in CBM reservoir engineering, excellent analytical skills, and a proven ability to optimize production in challenging subsurface conditions, supporting the development of indigenous energy resources in the Free State.

• Perform detailed reservoir characterization and modeling for CBM assets, integrating geological and production data.
• Analyze reservoir performance, identify production decline drivers, and develop strategies for production optimization.
• Develop and manage reservoir simulation models to forecast production and evaluate enhanced recovery techniques.
• Conduct economic evaluations of development plans and recompletion opportunities.
• Provide technical guidance on drilling, completion, and production operations related to Coal Bed Methane extraction.
• Collaborate with geologists, geophysicists, and production engineers to ensure integrated field development strategies.

• Master's degree or PhD in Petroleum Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in reservoir engineering , with a significant focus on Coal Bed Methane projects.
• Expertise in CBM reservoir simulation, performance analysis, and material balance calculations.
• Strong understanding of coal geology, gas-in-place calculations, and desorption phenomena.
• Proven experience in reserve estimation and economic evaluation (e.g., NPV, IRR).
