Senior Telecommunications Field Engineer

Our client, a prominent telecommunications service provider, is seeking a skilled Senior Telecommunications Field Engineer to join their operations in Bloemfontein . This role is essential for the installation, maintenance, and repair of telecommunications equipment and infrastructure across various sites. You will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance and reliability of our client's network, providing on-site technical support and resolving complex issues.

The ideal candidate possesses strong hands‑on technical skills, a thorough understanding of telecommunications systems, and the ability to work independently in the field. This hybrid role combines field-based work with some remote administrative and planning tasks, offering a dynamic work experience in the heart of the Free State .

• Install, configure, test, and maintain telecommunications equipment, including base stations, routers, switches, and transmission systems.
• Perform regular maintenance checks and preventative upkeep on network infrastructure.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose hardware and software issues, implementing effective solutions.
• Respond to service calls and outages, ensuring minimal downtime and prompt resolution.
• Conduct site surveys and prepare detailed reports on installation and maintenance activities.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company standards.
• Collaborate with network operations and engineering teams to resolve escalated issues.
• Maintain accurate records of all field activities, inventory, and equipment status.
• Provide technical guidance and support to junior field technicians.
• Identify opportunities for network improvement and efficiency gains.

• Diploma or relevant certification in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of experience as a Field Engineer or Technician in the telecommunications industry.
• Strong understanding of mobile network technologies (e.g., LTE, 3G, 2G) and associated hardware.
• Proficiency in using test equipment such as OTDRs, spectrum analyzers, and signal generators.
• Experience with fiber optic installation and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of IP networking, routing, and switching fundamentals.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel within the designated service area.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
